Katie intends to create art that is inherently empathetic and relentlessly candid; art that shamelessly overshares, if you choose to listen. These intimate scenes often include moody lighting and playful details. Her current body of work pairs with past journal entries, visualizing the emotional rollercoaster of the Toronto dating scene.
RE[d]ACTIVE
My first solo show takes place at Gallery 1888 in Roncesvalles, Toronto, on June 20th. Opening reception from 4-6 pm with an exclusive sneak peek into my diary circa 2021.
In this exhibition "RE[d]ACTIVE”, I will be presenting my deeply personal and expressive work, created over the last five years as part of my healing process from a destructive relationship. “RE[d]ACTIVE” offers an unfiltered perspective on the messy highs and lows of indulgent infatuation. The chronological curation guides viewers through the tumultuous emotional landscape, making the journey both accessible and engaging. I want to foster meaningful conversations that I did not have the voice to start five years ago and lovingly expose what shame fights to keep small. It is important to me that my work builds community and makes viewers feel more seen and saner than they did before. The progress made towards this series nearly spans my entire professional arts career and has been my largest goal throughout. Visitors to the opening night have the opportunity to view the complete journal entries and they will be progressively redacted further throughout the show runtime.
