The Invisible String

To be displayed at this year's Toronto Artist Project, this series serves as a reminder that we're always part of connected community, even through everyday moments of solitude.

Afternoon Nap in B♭ Minor

A mirror to Afternoon Nap in A♭ Major, like sun and moon, fluffy white dog and sleek black cat. This restful scene weaves its way into the Invisible String series through the floral quilt. Each of the flowers have been plucked from the patterned and hidden into the composition of the other paintings.

Inspired by moments of loneliness that were exacerbated by the busy city of Toronto, The Invisible String series is dedicated to anyone who has ever felt disconnected.

It is a visual depiction of the concept of sonder, the profound feeling of realizing that every other person, including strangers, has a life as vivid and complex as your own. And further, this series invites viewers to consider that all of those lives are interconnected.

From each painting to the next, some element is passed on, bridging the gap between the ordinary, private lives of strangers.

The Invisible String welcomes both deeper reflection and playful interaction; as you search for the links between paintings, you might stumble upon other hidden easter eggs and motifs running through the entire body of work.

Come see it for yourself this May 8-11 at the Toronto Artist Project.
